Looking Forward to Growth?

Are You Going to Reap What You've Sown, or Dig Up What You've Buried?

We often look forward to harvest season with excitement, anticipating the fruits of our labor. But have you ever considered the difference between planting and burying?

Burying vs. Planting

Planting involves taking what God has given you – your emotions, thoughts, ideas, and gifts – and intentionally putting them into the ground with trust. It's about nurturing a seed with the expectation that something beautiful will spring forth. When we plant, the excitement for harvest comes from witnessing growth and transformation.

Burying is different. When we bury our emotions, we're not allowing them to be processed or expressed. The result isn't a harvest, but rather emotional repression and suppression. Similarly, burying our gifts or ideas can lead to careers or relationships that feel stagnant and unfulfilling, offering no true growth.

What Are You Going to Find?

You are going to continue to dig up what you have buried. The only way for something new to spring up is to plant a seed and nurture it. If you've been burying your emotions, you'll likely dig up relationships that lack emotional intimacy. If you've buried your gifts, you might find yourself in a career that doesn't align with your true self. If you've buried your thoughts, you might be stuck in situations that keep looping endlessly.

The True Excitement of Harvest

Genuine excitement for harvest season stems from the act of planting. It's about trusting the process, knowing that the seeds of your authentic self, when nurtured, will grow into something amazing. This is when we can look forward to seeing how our efforts have blossomed.

Are we truly excited because we've been actively planting and cultivating, or are we expecting a reward for simply burying our potential?

The unfaithful servant in Matthew 25 does exactly this. He buried the talent he was given in hopes of being able to return it to the master undiminished. He took the safe route. As a result, nothing changed. His fear kept him from cultivating and growing something new and beautiful with what he was given. The master was not pleased to receive back exactly what he had given the servant. He wanted to see him grow it to some degree.

The Invitation

I’m inviting you to embrace the opportunity to plant with intention, to nurture what you've been given, and to look forward to a harvest that truly reflects your growth and God's blessings.
